Natural Environment and Climate Change

ECOSYSTEM ANALYSIS aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the complex relationships and interconnectedness between different ecosystems, ranging from mountainous regions (landscape-ridge) to the oceanic depths (seascape-reef). This knowledge is essential for urban planners and municipalities as it allows them to effectively manage their entire land and water areas, including public land and up to 15km of municipal waters.

CLUP Guidebook 2013. The analysis includes an examination of resources, forests, and coastal areas, as well as biodiversity and potential natural hazards, including the impact of climate change. By adopting an integrated watershed ecosystems management framework, which recognizes the interrelationships between upland, lowland, and coastal ecosystems, the Comprehensive Land Use Plan Guidebook 2013 published by then Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (now Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development) responds to significant legislative and environmental changes affecting land use and resource allocation and management in the Philippines.

Mainstreaming and Integration. The guidebook also acknowledges the importance of mainstreaming climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, as well as the integration of planning for critical resources such as upland, coastal, ancestral domain, biodiversity areas, heritage, and urban greening.
