Date Implemented
This Sports and Recreation in Support of Tourism Project was held January 21-22, 2012.
Implementing Office
This pioneering project was implemented under the Office of the Municipal Mayor.
Total Project Cost
The project was allocated Php75,000.00 by the Municipal Government of Rosario, Batangas headed by the Honorable Mayor Manuel B. Alvarez for participation in cash prizes and expenses for trophies.
Rationale
The Municipality of Rosario, Batangas is fully supportive of the Department of Tourism in its effort to encourage increased tourism activities in the country. To this effect, the Annual Investment Program (AIP) for 2012 enunciated formulating and implementing tourism plans, programs, projects and activities under the Special Projects segment of the Office of the Municipal Mayor.
This special project immediately touches on cross-sectoral concerns and deliver impact across several basic sectors in terms of social and economic benefits.
The project lends meaningful support for the social development sector of sports and recreation by promoting motorcycle-based sports activities.
The availability of motorcycle-based sports activity where the youth can participate is a positive development for this sector. Involvement in sports activities provides opportunities for the beneficial use of time. It tends to divert the youth away from the influence of illegal drugs. This in turn can contribute to improved public order and safety situation in the municipality.
In terms of revenue contribution in the long term, to both the Municipal and Barangay Governments, the location of the race track and the surrounding properties in the area will generate increased property valuation and consequently, higher real property taxes. We could add business taxes and other fees in the positive impact of this project to the revenue collection of the municipality.
In terms of economic development, locals and visitors, the youth and adults, riders and spectators, all can have one more sports to focus on. This in turn can contribute to increased traffic of tourists in the municipality by attracting participants and spectators alike from out of town.
The economic development sector of tourism generates jobs and livelihood in its support industries like food establishments, resorts and lodging houses, real estate, personal services like barber shops and salons, souvenir shops and other commercial activities. Hence, this project can lead to more employment and livelihood opportunities for the people of Rosario.
Objectives
- To implement tourism plans, programs, projects and activities;
- To promote sports and recreation across all sectors including, men and women, youth and children, as well as our seniors by their involvement as riders, spectators, vendors, organizers and other roles.
- To create opportunities for livelihood and employment of the people of the municipality.
Racing Facility
The facility is about 4 hectares more or less and about 1 hectare was used for the dirt road race track of about 1 kilometer in length. There is a concrete office building with a garage which doubles as a repair shop.
Competition
The completion was open to all interested racing enthusiasts. The ages ranged from as young as 3 years old to as old as 60 years old. Over 80 riders are expected to join with 75% them consisting of the youth. About 10 women was expected to join the completion.
